Christian Marriage Counseling
At Awakenings we have several Christian therapists who specialize in Christian marriage counseling and Christian sex therapy. Faith is central to their lives and informs the way they believe people are healed from broken relationships. During a Christian therapy session you can expect to talk to a therapist who is empathetic, knowledgeable, respectful, and validating of your Christian beliefs.
Pastors and priests are often the first counseling resource for Christians with they experience relational issues. Christian therapists take things one step further with the intensive training in how interpersonal dynamics contribute to breakdowns in relationships and marriages. They know that the “sins of the fathers” are the way a person’s family of origin has given them a misguided blueprint for connecting to others. We primarily work from attachment theory that says our deepest need is to be attached in love to another, to God and to community.
We encourage these clients to be intentional about prayer and take time for reflection before and after our sessions. However, because many of our clients come to us from a variety of different Christian denominations, we do not see ourselves as spiritual advisors and therefore do not read, pray or interpret Scripture together during Christian marriage counseling.

Christian Sex Therapy at Awakenings is with Christian counselors who believe that God created sex not just for procreation, but also for passionate intimacy to join us to our spouse. Unfortunately, many individuals and couples are not given this message. Through the tool of Christian sex therapy , we help couples understand the relational dynamics that are often the deepest root of sexual problems. Additionally, we offer help with specific sexual dysfunctions like low libido, lack of orgasm, premature ejaculation, dysfunction, sexual anxiety, and vaginismus.

Christian Counseling for Individuals
We are often asked if we provide Christian counseling for individuals seeking therapy. Of course, we do. We counsel people who are struggling with many issues from finding a partner, to fulfilling their purpose. Grief counseling, stress management, relational discord are frequent reasons many Christians seek Christian counseling.
Christian Premarital Counseling
We also offer Christian Premarital Counseling – 6 guided sessions about topics that are frequently problematic from financial management, to in-laws, to sexual intimacy. Each couple will also be given the Prepare/Enrich Inventory and will have the benefit of this empirical tool be interpreted by their counselor.
