Laurie Watson, PhD, MA, LMFT, LCMHC, Director of Awakenings, certified sex therapist, Doctor of Sexology, certified EFT therapist, certified addictions specialist from IICS. She has thirty years of experience working with couples and individuals about love and sex. As a result of her training, Dr. Watson says, “I’ve never seen a couple who I didn’t feel hope about their healing and happiness. The difficulty is convincing them to give up the idea that only their partner will have to change! And yet, the minute we see our part in the looping cycle, we have the power to transform our partnership/marriage!”
Laurie is the host of the popular podcast, FOREPLAY RADIO—Couples and Sex Therapy ranked in the top 10 in iTunes under Sexuality and has over 10M downloads. Furthermore, Laurie authored her first book Wanting Sex Again—How to Rediscover Desire and Heal a Sexless Marriage (Penguin) in December 2012. As a popular blogger for the general public, she has over 40 million reads between her WebMD blog and Psychology Today Online in Married and Still Doing It. And she is very proud that her latest published article was in her professional home the American Association of Marriage Family Therapists.
Laurie also lectures physician residents, PAs and PTs at Duke and UNC Chapel Hill’s medical schools on sexual function and dysfunction. Additionally, she teaches sexual attachment integrated with EFT for therapists all over the world. Also she serves as a consultant for other therapists regarding their clients stuck in the sexual cycle.
Very proudly, Laurie was featured in her hometown in the N&O and local news when she first published her book. Subsequently, Laurie has also been published or quoted in most every nationally popular media resource including the New York Times, Buzzfeed, Goop, HuffPo, WebMD, Glamour, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, etc. As a popular media figure, she is regularly on radio and television in Raleigh and Greensboro. Dr. Watson appeared for a year on TV in My Carolina Today, for an insta series on Vogue Weddings as well as the Katie Couric Show.
Director/owner of Awakenings, Counseling for Couples and Sexuality, Laurie teaches and supervises 20 clinicians in both Raleigh and Greensboro.
She currently is not taking weekly clients but does online consultation throughout the world. Couples have the option to work with Laurie for weekend retreat intensives from 12-16 hours. Along with her cohost George Faller, she offers an annual online couples retreat on love and sex!
