Life Coaching
What is life coaching? Life coaching is different than some other services that Awakenings provides. Unlike therapy, which often looks at the past as a reason for present difficulties, life coaching takes a future-oriented, solution-focused view of challenges that you are facing in life. Life coaching allows an opportunity for a client to work with a coach to figure out their goals, and to work on a process by which they can overcome the obstacles that are between them and these goals.
What sort of issues would I talk about in my life coaching session? Very often life coaches help with challenges and opportunities that are present for everyone in work, school, fitness, or finance. This can especially be helpful in new and unknown situations, where a coach who has gone through similar challenges would be able to give guidance for getting through the difficulties. For example, if you are starting a new business and want to talk about the challenges and exhilaration of the work with someone, a life coach would be a wonderful avenue for those questions. Or maybe you’re trying to change a habit in your life and you want someone to discuss strategies and help hold you accountable — this would be a great opportunity to employ a life coach.
What is the cadence of life coaching? Life coaching may often be infrequent, with clients coming in to report the victories they have achieved over their obstacles, as well as to find ways they can continue to move forward with the action plan that they have collaboratively built with their life coach. Sometimes coaching needs to be more granular, and in those cases the life coach and the client might decide to meet more frequently and take a more detail-focused approach to overcoming challenges.
What is NOT life coaching? Where is it not appropriate? As a rule, life coaching is not appropriate to deal with trauma or diagnosable mental health challenges.
