The Awakenings Center is hiring at all our North Carolina locations (Raleigh, Durham/Chapel Hill, and Greensboro) for Post-Doctoral Candidates.
Position Description:
This is a full time, 12-month, post-doctoral position that will meet or exceed North Carolina state requirements for licensure as a Psychologist. Previous experience in both couples work and sex therapy is preferred but not required—we will provide training in these areas. Clinicians will work a minimum of 25 client contact hours a week with open availability of 40 hours per week. One hour per week of individual licensure supervision by a licensed clinical psychologist is provided, in addition to 1.5 hours of group supervision per week, and a weekly didactic training.
We aim to produce clinicians who have strong therapeutic skills that enable them to work competently and effectively with individuals and couples on issues ranging from marital or relational discord and disconnect, sexual dysfunction or distress, infidelity recovery, LGBTQAI concerns, to depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other diagnoses that impact both interpersonal and intrapersonal functioning. Upon completing a post-doctoral placement at Awakenings, clinicians will have sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups, and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics defined broadly and consistent with APA policy. The postdoctoral clinician will be provided psychotherapy clients from various cultural, ethnic, and personal backgrounds while receiving supervision in working with those diverse clients, addressing those various issues that stress individuals and couples, and be prepared for practicing as a psychologist.
We have a structured training curriculum that covers individual and couple’s psychotherapy skills with a focus on Emotionally Focused Therapy approach, individual and cultural diversity, ethical and legal issues and standards of clinical work. Administrative support, initial intake management, insurance filing, and marketing is provided, allowing clinicians to focus on their time with clients, growing their clinical skills, and improving their work in the room. We cross-refer to maximize our strengths, work collaboratively with other therapists and physicians, and reach out to educate our community about how to strengthen romantic relationships.
Candidate Requirements:
Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, or EdD) prior to beginning postdoctoral work at Awakenings. Candidates must be eligible for Provisional License to practice in the state of North Carolina and eligible for Licensure as a Health Service Provider (required for psychologists practicing in NC) at the start of the position. Excellent verbal and written communication and skills, organizational skills with attention to detail, and ability to be part of a diverse team of clinicians is essential.
We welcome candidates of every race, religion, gender, and sexual orientation and are fully committed to creating an inclusive work environment for all our employees.
Compensation:
We understand that growing a caseload is a process and our competitive compensation allows for that while giving a strong salary to ensure stability. Post-doctoral clinicians are paid a salary of 47,000-58,000 per year, with 10 holidays off and 10 days of paid time off, both quarterly and yearly bonuses, and health benefits included that begin 90 days after the date of hire.
To apply:
Please send a copy of your resume/CV along with a cover letter expressing your desire to join Awakenings, what interests you in couples work, being part of a group practice, and where you would like to take your career. Please include 3 letters of references.
