1) Our Past Teaching and Beliefs about Sexuality
Learn how various backgrounds inform the intimate expectations of marriage – from hookup culture, rap, and purity culture, to family models and expectations and Christian teaching.
2) Push and Pull: Navigating the Pursue/Withdraw Cycle in Marriage
Learn how all conflict follows one pattern both in our emotional connection and our sexual connection to our partner. Discover the pressure the world puts on met to be strong and silent emotionally and all-knowing and potent sexually. Test these values against what God would have us be to our partners in both areas.
3) The Courage of Vulnerability
See how countercultural it is for men in general, to become vulnerable, and learn concrete examples of how this can change your relationship. Use this Christian Men’s group to practice being authentic with support.
4) Protecting the Passion and Pleasure of Sex
Learn the balance between proactive and responsive initiative in the sexual cycle with your partner. Identify what your own sexual accelerators and brakes are, and learn to be sensitive to your spouse’s accelerators and brakes.
5) Self-care when everybody needs you
Learn how to distinguish selfishness and withdrawing from the legitimate need to have some autonomy. Discover how to more directly ask for your needs to be met instead of passively taking them or feeling resentful.
6) Messages about Masculinity
Discuss the sacrificial and decisive love men can have for their spouses and learn practical ways to live out that love in your own marriage.
7) Final
Members are invited to share their own questions and insights with the Christian Men’s group.
